Scuff Resistance Tester
The Scuff Resistance Tester is designed to evaluate the resistance of printed or coated surfaces to rubbing. It operates by rubbing two printed surfaces against each other (face-to-face) in the same plane at a constant speed of 60 RPM under uniform pressure. This test simulates real-life handling and transportation conditions to assess colour transfer, ink abrasion, and surface scuffing in paper and packaging materials.
During testing, the sample is secured to the base of the tester with the printed side facing upward. A 2 psi test weight is applied, positioning the printed surfaces face-to-face. (Customer-specified materials may be used in place of standard samples where required.) The machine is preset to the desired number of cycles—typically 100—and operated according to customer specifications. After completion of the set cycles, the samples are examined for ink transfer, surface damage, or scuff marks.
