Yarn count determination is a critical parameter in the textile industry. Ikon Industries, Mumbai, India, has developed the Direct Yarn Count Balance, also known as Knowell’s Balance, along with an advanced Electronic Count Balance for precise measurement.
Description
Knowell’s Balance
This balance is equipped with two pans marked left and right, with hangers at the ends of the beam and a graduated plate featuring seven ranges (A to G) mounted on a sliding stand. The yarn lea is placed on the right pan, while the standard weights are placed on the left pan along with the corresponding rider weight on the beam. After positioning the beam on its fulcrum, the rider weight is adjusted until the pointer aligns at zero. The reading corresponding to the rider weight on the scale indicates the yarn count.
Electronic Count Balance
This modern electronic balance offers a weighing range of 0–120 grams with an accuracy of 0.001 gram. It includes additional software that provides the direct yarn count value for a 120-yard length lea at the press of a button.
Note:
To perform the test, a Wrap Reel (Imperial System) for preparing leas is required. This accessory is not included with the Direct Yarn Count Balance and can be supplied separately.
