Compression Set Apparatus At Strain
Compression set at constant strain is defined as the difference between the original thickness of a test specimen and its thickness after recovery, expressed as a percentage of the initially applied compression. This test measures the ability of vulcanized rubber to retain its elastic properties after prolonged compression under a constant strain.
In this method, cylindrical disc-shaped specimens are subjected to a fixed compression for a specified time at a controlled temperature. After removal of the load and allowing the specimen to recover, the compression set value is calculated.
The IKON Compression Set Apparatus is specially designed to determine the compression set of vulcanized natural and synthetic rubbers under constant strain conditions. It is available in the following two models:
Description
1) Plates Type
- Comprises four austenitic stainless steel plates with flat, parallel ground faces
- Plates are secured with high tensile steel Allen bolts
- Ring-type spacers of specified thickness (magnetic stainless steel) provide accurate compression
- Supplied complete in a wooden carrying case
2) Plates Type with Base Plate and Hand Wheel Arrangement
- Four stainless steel plates mounted on a rigid base plate
- Guided on two vertical rods for proper alignment
- Spacers guided on the same rods with springs to facilitate easy specimen insertion
- Compression applied through a screw mechanism operated by a handwheel
- Enables quick and uniform application of compression load
